Laser Tattoo Removal

Many people regret having a tattoo or they don't like where it is. There are many different ways to remove tattoos, but the 'gold standard' is Laser Tattoo Removal. This is the most effective and safest way to remove unwanted tattoos.

All areas of the face and body can be treated. The procedure is customised to deal with the different colours, the type of skin and the age of the tattoo. Some people worry that tattoos on the finer skin or on bony parts of the body cannot be treated with laser, but all these can be considered for treatment.

Here at MK Aesthetics we will perform a full consultation and decide the best way to approach how to remove your tattoo.

How long does the treatment take?
On average each session can take between 15-60 minutes but this all depends on the size of the tattoo and your skin type.

Is laser tattoo removal safe?
The treatment is safe as long as we have had the opportunity to perform a full consultation and test on the tattoo area. The Lynton Q-Switch laser uses the most advanced Q-Switched technology which has an intelligent, accurate target to break down only the inked skin.

What happens after treatment? Are there any side effects?
The area will turn to a much paler shade or even white. Cold compresses are advised to reduce any burning or swelling. With each treatment you will see the area fade that bit further as the pigment continues to break down. Scabbing is normal which may last for about two weeks but remember your skin is going through a re-healing process so it is acting naturally. It is rare for adverse side effects to occur but allergic reactions can happen.

What is the aftercare?
With laser treatment there is need to care for your skin. Although the laser system is non-surgical there are a number of things you will be advised to do to avoid complications and to get the best out of your treatment:

Avoid restrictive clothing around the area
Do not use perfume or lotions on the area
Avoid heat treatments such as saunas for up to 2 months as skin is photo-sensitive
Avoid direct sunlight on the area
Do not pick scabs or blisters as this will impede healing
Use an antiseptic cream to avoid any infection on broken skin

I have sensitive skin, will this be a problem?
No, your skin will be able to have the laser treatment but you will probably need a little bit more attention to the skin during your aftercare treatment. At the end of each session and your final treatment, you will get all the advice you need to get the best out the laser treatment.

Is it expensive?
Our prices are very competitive considering the laser equipment we use is of the highest manufacturing standard, made in the UK and is officially CE marked. What you will eventually pay will depend upon the colours used and size of your tattoo.

How does laser tattoo removal work?
The Lynton Q-switched laser produces powerful light rays in short pulses that pass through the skin. The advanced Q-Switched technology safely penetrates the skin and targets each ink colour with its specific wavelengths. It does this without harming the surround skin. Without trauma there is no risk of scarring to healthy un-inked skin.

The energy from these wavelengths breaks the inked pigment down into tiny particles which are then removed by the body’s lymphatic (immune) system – the safest and most natural way possible. The skin then gently heals itself as it understands that a type of trauma has occurred. The healing process is crucial to desired appearance of pre-tattoo’d skin.

How Successful is Treatment?
The different colours used in tattoo inks have different strengths and life spans. Some colours such as green, yellow and aqua usually take the longest to fade and can therefore be the most stubborn to eliminate. Shades of red and orange repond particularly well to this treatment and dark blue through to black ink can be treated well too. Full removal of your tattoo with little to no blemishes will depend upon your skin type too. Most people are more than happy with their results, they are usually surprised at just how good the skin can look after the last few sessions.
